Pyramus and Thisbe perfectly balances the aromas of sweet, dark berries with velvety vanilla. A top note of black cherry gives way to a heart of raspberry and plum, while base notes of vanilla, sugar, and musk keep this fragrance grounded.

MYTHOS

Pyramus and Thisbe grew up as neighbors in two houses of rivals who refused to speak to one another. As the two grew, they found a means of talking together through a crack in the garden wall that separated their two houses. Here, again and again, Pyramus on his side of the wall and Thisbe on hers, they would meet to tell each other all that had happened during the day, and to complain of their cruel parents.

Pyramus and Thisbe were forbidden to marry one another by their parents, but after time the two had fallen in love and could endure no longer to be apart. Pyramus and Thisbe resolved that they would leave their homes and be married, no matter the cost.

They made a plan to meet near the tomb of Ninus beneath a mulberry tree. Thisbe, first to arrive, was terrified by the roar of a lioness and took to flight. In her haste she dropped her veil, which the lioness tore to pieces with jaws stained with the blood of an ox. Pyramus arrived soon after, and upon seeing the stained veil of Thisbe, believed that she'd been devoured by the lioness. Horrified and unable to imagine life without Thisbe, Pyramus unsheathed his dagger and took his own life. His blood fell on the white mulberry fruit, staining them.

Thisbe returned shortly afterwards only to find the body of her beloved Pyramus on the ground. Unable to shake herself from her mourning and resolved to join Pyramus in the afterworld, Thisbe took the dagger from her beside her lover's body and took her life.

The gods, watchful and mourning, thenceforth stained the fruit of the mulberry.
