MYTHOS

Aegeus was the founder and king of the city of Athens in ancient Greece, and father of the legendary Theseus. After nearly losing the city to King Minos of Crete during war, Aegeus agreed to a peace treaty under the term that seven men and seven women from the fourteen tribes of Athens would be sent to Crete in regular intervals to be fed to the Minotaur. 

This repeated sacrifice continued on until the brave Theseus offered to help bring the practice to an end. Theseus volunteered himself to join the fourteen tributes so that he could slay the Minotaur. Aegeus was scared for his beloved son’s life, so to help ease his father’s fears Theseus agreed that he would ensure that his fate be announced by changing the sails on his ship to white upon his return home if he survived, and leaving them black should he have perished. 

Aegeus waited in nervous anticipation at the edge of the cliffs overlooking the sea for his son's return. Although Theseus was successful in slaying the Minotaur, a few too many celebratory drinks and feasts on the journey home lead Theseus to forget his promise to his father and so he did not change his ship's sails. When Aegeus saw his son's ship approach with black sails, Aegeus thought that his beloved son had perished. Heartbroken, Aegeus threw himself from the cliffs and into the sea where he perished. From this moment forth, the sea became known as the Aegean.

Our candles are hand poured in small batches and contain clean-burning premium soy wax, lead-free cotton wicks, as well as fragrance and essential oil blends that are free from phthalates, carcinogens, toxins, animal ingredients, and colorants. These standards provide a clean, long-lasting burn and a captivating experience of unique and inviting scents. 

Made with quality and the environment in mind, our soy wax burns cooler and lasts longer than paraffin wax, and is sustainably sourced from American soy bean farmers committed to achieving a 100% verified deforestation-free supply chain.

Each candle comes in a modern recyclable cardboard cylinder that keeps wax dust free when the candle is not in use, and makes each candle ready for gifting.

Net weight 9.6oz/272g. Burn time up to 40 hours. 

Burn your candle for one hour the first time you light it to achieve an even burn and prevent future tunneling.

For a clean burn, trim wick before each use. 

Ensure candles are on a suitable heat resistant surface when in use. Never leave a lit candle unattended or alone with children or pets, or near flammable items.  

Our candle labels are curbside recyclable and are categorized under plastic category 4 LDPE, or low-density polyethylene. 

The cardboard tube used to house our candles is curbside recyclable under Cardboard PAP-20.

Our amber glass containers are curbside recyclable under the Mixed Glass category, GL-70.
